Fence It. Pad It. Protect It.
Pike SWCD's Practical Solutions to Cleaner Water
This program will focus on reducing non-point source pollution on pasture and hay land in Pike County. The primary objectives are to improve soil health (as needed), enhance pasture productivity through inter-seeding, implement livestock exclusion from streams and waterways, and construct heavy-use feeding pads to minimize soil compaction and erosion associated with winter feeding practices. Collectively, these conservation practices will contribute to measurable improvements in water quality by reducing sediment loss and decreasing nutrient loading, including nitrogen, phosphorus, and ammonia.
